ORI303100000 Victron Buck-Boost DC-DC Converter/Charger – 100A at 12V / 50A at 24V

The Victron Buck-Boost DC-DC Converter is a high-current, programmable charger designed to charge a 12V or 24V auxiliary battery from a 12V or 24V alternator and starter-battery system.

Its automatic buck-boost regulation allows the input voltage to be higher or lower than the programmed output voltage. This makes it particularly suitable for vehicles with Euro 5 or Euro 6 smart alternators, which may not consistently provide the voltage required to charge an auxiliary battery properly.

The converter also allows the input and charging-current limits to be programmed, helping protect the alternator from overloading when charging large lithium battery banks.

Supported Configurations

  • 12V input to 12V battery
  • 12V input to 24V battery
  • 24V input to 12V battery
  • 24V input to 24V battery

Charging Capacity

  • Maximum charging current with a 12V output: 100A
  • Maximum charging current with a 24V output: 50A
  • Maximum charging current for 12V-to-24V operation: 50A

Actual charging current may be limited by the programmed settings, available alternator capacity, input-current limit and converter temperature.

Key Features

  • Automatic buck-boost voltage regulation
  • Programmable 10–30V DC output
  • 10–30V DC input range
  • Adjustable charging-current limit
  • Adjustable input-current limit
  • Built-in engine-running detection
  • Programmable delayed activation
  • Automatic temperature-based current limiting
  • LED input and output status indicators
  • USB configuration and monitoring
  • CAN-bus connection for an optional Victron temperature sensor
  • M8 power connections
  • Non-isolated design
  • Suitable for compatible lead-acid and lithium battery systems when correctly programmed
  • Five-year Victron warranty

Configuration

This converter is programmed and monitored using the Victron TSConfig application on a Windows computer. A USB Type-A to Type-B cable is required.

This model does not have Bluetooth and is not configured through the VictronConnect app.

The charging voltage and current limits must be programmed according to the battery manufacturer’s specifications before use.

Engine-Running Detection

Built-in engine-running detection allows the converter to begin charging only when the vehicle’s engine and alternator are operating. This helps prevent the auxiliary battery from discharging the starter battery while the engine is off.

The converter can alternatively be activated through its programmable input.

Battery Compatibility

The adjustable voltage and current settings allow the converter to be used with compatible:

  • Flooded lead-acid batteries
  • AGM batteries
  • Gel batteries
  • Lithium and LiFePO₄ batteries

Always confirm the required charging voltage, maximum charging current and temperature limitations with the battery manufacturer.

Applications

  • Commercial and specialty vehicles
  • RV and expedition-vehicle electrical systems
  • High-capacity dual-battery systems
  • Smart-alternator charging systems
  • Lithium battery banks requiring alternator-current protection
  • Marine installations in a dry, protected location

Important Installation Information

This is a high-current electrical device and must be installed with appropriately sized cables and input and output fuses. The alternator must have sufficient capacity for the selected charging-current setting.

The converter does not have reverse-polarity protection. Verify all connections carefully before applying power.

Install the converter in a dry, well-ventilated location protected from water, condensation and excessive heat. Marine installations should be completed by a qualified marine electrician.
